Edentulous Support Society works towards enhancing the quality of life for the silver citizens. The group aims to inform and educate the people about the health hazards that occur due to the loss of teeth and to establish the choice of dental implant as the norm in dentistry that translates into better patient health.

This support group will reach to more than one lakh edentulous people by 2010 by opening counseling centers, appointing dentist affiliated with ESS.

This is an initiative which is taken by Dr. Vijay Tamhane, Founder Director, to bring succor to millions of people who are suffering from edentulism. Edentulous Support Society is supported by group of eminent dentists & prominent people from the society who are dedicating their personal energy, time and money in the exercise. Awareness towards Oral Care

First ever international day related to oral health was celebrated back in year 1994; this year was an International Year of Oral health. In order to support the improvement of oral health the FDI is very keen to establish the new World Oral Health Day on September 12 of each year.

About the Indian Dental Association

The Indian Dental Association, was formed in the year 1946, it have help to shape the National Oral Health Policy. IDA have there presence nation wide across 27 state and over 185 local branches with combined strength of around 15,000 dentist and student.

This annual event is organized with the main objective of improving the oral health awareness and condition around the world. Since its first implementation in 1998, it has reached out to millions of people in a lot of countries, worldwide. In 2008, 81 countries conducted the event, including key countries in Asia, like China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.

To create awareness and improve oral health condition, events are organized around the world.

According to recent survey in India found that only 2.5% Indians visit a dentist at least once a year compare to 48% which is the global average. About 67% of Indians have never paid a visit to a dentist and 30% do when they face any dental problem. Out of these people who finally seek treatment for dental problem are 1 in 3 and that to get tooth extractions as generally there is no other option left.

How many times have you hear “make it a habit to brush your teeth at least twice a day or if possible thrice a day.” Discipline yourself to save your teeth from plaque and decay. How safe are dental implants?

What are dental implants and how are they useful?

Tell us about cosmetic dentistry?

Is cleaning and bleaching harmful in anyway?

Home bleach: Here, the patient is guided to use bleaching appliance and paste at home and results are gradual in a couple of weeks. Though patients may develop slight sensitivity on their teeth, that sensation tends to go away in a day or two.

What precautions can be taken if the patient is pregnant?
You have to be very cautious. Medicines have to be given carefully. Prophylactic treatment like superficial scaling, silver filling can be done. In case of any emergency, it should be given under medical supervision.
